In Australia more than 250 veterinarians have been trained to international standards set by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.

Certified veterinarians are entitled to use the letters CVA (Certified veterinary Acupuncturist) and must maintain membership and continuing education credits in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to use the letters CVA (IVAS).

There are some veterinary acupuncturists that have completed human studies in acupuncture and applied their knowledge in comparative anatomy to be able to treat animals safely and effectively.
